Yerba mate is the main source of the historical beverage known as “Mate” which dates back to centuries ago. Originally used by the indigenous Guarani, it later spread to the Tupi’s and even some of the Druze communities. It was drunk hot or cold, either as a tea or iced tea and was culturally consumed in social gatherings. The Guarani legend was of the Goddesses of the moon and the cloud who one day came to visit earth. However on their visit they found a yaguareté that was about to attack them when an old man saved them, so in return, the goddesses gave the old man a new kind of plant which became the formula to "The drink of friendship.”
